Climate

Close to the coast the winters are milder and the summers are cooler, but the difference does not exceed a couple of degrees from a continental climate.

A continental climate is characterized by wide diurnal and seasonal variations in temperature and by low, irregular rainfall with high rates of evaporation that leave the land arid. The northern areas of Aquera has two rainy seasons, one in spring (April-June) and the other in autumn (October-November), with late spring being the wettest time of the year. In southern Aquera, the wet seasons are also in spring and autumn, but the spring one is earlier (March), and autumn is the wetter season. Even during the wet seasons, rain is irregular and unreliable. Continental winters are cold, with strong winds and high humidity, despite the low precipitation. Except for mountain areas, the northern foothills of the Aquera are the coldest area, and frost is common. Summers are warm and cloudless, producing average daytime temperatures that reach 21°C (69.8ºF) in northern Aquera and 24º (75.2º) to 27°C (80.6ºF) in southern Aquera. Night time temperatures range from 7º (44.6º) to 10ºC (50ºF). The Abismo Lake Basin, at a lower altitude, is extremely hot during the summer, and temperatures can exceed 43ºC (109.4ºF).

Government

An empire is defined as "an aggregate of nations or people ruled over by an emperor or other powerful sovereign or government, usually a territory of greater extent than a kingdom. Aquera was announced as the Empire once they conquered the lands of Isaccea. Even after the loss of that territory they did not change their status. Since they are following the faith of Olometism, the Council of Dieu Soleil usually supports or rejects the status of nations, because they are the voice of Dieu Soleil. They still support Aquera as an Empire which displeases other countries, which see it as corruption, because the Holy City of the Council of Dieu Soleil is in Aquera Kingdom and they have too tight of a relationship.

It may also be understood as an absolute monarchy because the monarch has absolute power among his people. An absolute monarch wields unrestricted political power over the sovereign state and its people despite the fact that he has a Royal Council as a deliberative body. The house of Ferreiro holds power in the Kingdom of Aquera for as long as history remembers and they have the strongest support of the Council of Dieu Soleil, which makes any changes virtually impossible.

The Empire of Aquera follows Agnatic succession. It allows succession just to those descended from or related to a past or current monarch exclusively through the male line of descent: descendants through females were ineligible to inherit unless no males of the patrilineage remained alive.

In this form, the succession is reserved first to all the male dynastic descendants of all the eligible branches by order of primogeniture, then upon total extinction of those male descendants to a female member of the dynasty. If a female descendant should take the throne, she will not necessarily be the senior heiress by primogeniture, but usually the nearest relative to the last male monarch of the dynasty by proximity of blood.
