Climate

Cotland is an island which gives it a varied climate. You can never know what the weather will be like from one day to the other. It can be sunny one day and rainy the next. Though, in general Cotland has warm summers and cool winters. Summers are cooler than those on the continent, but the winters are milder.

Cotland has four distinct seasons of fairly equal length - spring, summer, autumn and winter. In winter it is colder and wetter and the days are shorter than in summer.

On average it rains one in four days in the Cotland. It is generally wetter in the west than the east and wetter in the highlands than the lowlands. Average temperatures in Cotland are warmer at lower latitudes and colder at higher latitudes. They are also warmer at lower altitudes and colder at higher altitudes. Average yearly temperatures at low latitude vary from 7°C (44.6ºF) to 11°C (51.8ºF) on the south-west coast of Cotland, where the capital may be found. The coldest months are January and February and the warmest are July and August.

Government

An elective monarchy is a monarchy ruled by an elected monarch, in contrast to a hereditary monarchy in which the office is automatically passed down as a family inheritance. The manner of election, the nature of candidate qualifications, and the electors vary from case to case.

In the Kingdom of Cotland, kings are elected by a gathering of nobles at a field in Arbrath. Since in Cotland all the sons of a noble are considered nobles, and not only the eldest, every one of these nobles can potentially participate in such elections in person. During the election period, the function of the king is performed by the High Shaman. The High Shaman announces the day of election and everyone gathered in the field in Arbrath can cast a vote. The High Shaman and his apprentices count the votes. Once the King is announced nobody can question the result.

The Head of House of Talmhach is the current elected king and his family are considered royalty for as long as he holds the position.
